For over 30 years this small, fine autumn festival has been celebrated in Rudesheim and it has established itself as an integral part of the Rudesheim festival culture. You are invited to the lively market square in Rudesheim on the Sunday to enjoy the traditional days of the spring white – a feast of wine. Rudesheim is the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Take a stroll down the famous Drosselgasse, lined with a number of restaurants and cafés, traditional taverns and intimate courtyards where there is live music and dancing. Opportunity to the take a cable ride over the stunning vineyards to the Niederwald monument which boasts fantastic views across the Rhine.
Day 1 – Depart home area and travel to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. We continue through France and into Germany, making suitable refreshment stops en-route. Travel alongside the beautiful Rhine with all its fascinating castles and arrive in Rudesheim late afternoon. Time to freshen up before our evening meal.
Day 2 – Today we take a short coach ride to Wiesbaden, capital of the federal state of Hesse. It is tucked in a lovely valley between the Rhine River and the Taunus Mountains. Wiesbaden is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe. Opportunity to visit the shops and purchase lunch in the market square before rejoining the coach back to Rudesheim. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure before our evening meal. (Today we can also decide to take an optional return boat trip along the Rhine to Boppard (price not included).
Day 3 –Spend the day in Rudesheim taking in the joyous atmosphere. In the morning enjoy a wine tasting at Adolf Storzel. We can keep the glass afterwards and use it to taste the local wines around the town. Take a look around the stall holders and visit the many unique and individual shops Rudesheim has to offer. In the evening, after dinner, join Karen to the ‘International’ in the Drosselgasse for a Rudesheim coffee (made with Asbach brandy!).
Day 4 – Today we visit Heidelberg, situated on the river Neckar. This city will capture your heart. It has so much to offer; charm and character in abundance between the Old Bridge and the mighty Castle. There is a beautiful arrange of restaurants and shops to visit including a C & A’s! Return to the hotel in time to freshen up before our evening meal.
Day 5 – After breakfast we take the short ferry crossing (5 minutes) from Rudesheim to Bingen, then travel through Germany and France making suitable refreshment stops. Board the return Eurotunnel crossing at Calais back to the UK.
