DAY 1 We travel to our overnight hotel in Gretna Green making suitable refreshment stops along the way. Arrive at the hotel in time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 2 After breakfast we check out of the overnight hotel and head to Aberdeen, stopping in Stirling for lunch to be purchased. A wee city with a big history, Stirling punches well above its weight for spectacular scenery, not to mention shopping and places to eat. Browse independent boutiques in the historic surroundings of the Old Town and enjoy delicious food and drink in any of the friendly pubs, cafes and restaurants. Arrive at the hotel in time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 3 After breakfast we trace the footsteps of the Royal family. We begin our day with a short stop at the Church of Crathie, best known for being the regular place of worship for the British Royal Family when they are holidaying in Scotland. We then visit Deeside Brewery for a guided tour with a tasting to finish. In the afternoon we make our way to the Royal Deeside Railway at Milton of Crathes train station where we board a diesel or steam train for a 2-mile return journey. The Royal Deeside Railway is unique in having served all British monarchs from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II, their families and foreign visitors travelling to Balmoral. After our journey, we return to the hotel for our evening meal.
DAY 4 After breakfast we begin our half day guided tour of Aberdeen (9:00am start), the Granite City of Scotland’s third largest city. We visit the impressive turreted Town House in Union Street, the castellated Citadel at the Castlegate and the striking gothic Marischal College, the world’s second largest granite structure. With time to visit the famous ‘Granite Mile’ which is full of high street and independent Scottish craft shops, we will have plenty to see and do (Please note the tour is a combination of walking and joining the coach. The tour finishes at 12:45pm). We have time to purchase lunch before visiting the Glen Garioch Distillery. Enjoy a tour of this single malt distillery in eastern Scotland with the chance to bottle your own. Return to hotel with time to relax before our evening meal.
DAY 5 After breakfast visit Leith Hall, Garden & Estate, a quirky home filled with curios from all over the world. Leith Hall has played witness to Scottish history since 1650, with ten generations of the Leith-Hay family having lived here until just after World War II. They donated the house to the National Trust for Scotland along with all their furnishings and art, making it one of the most complete collections in the Trust’s care. Our visit to Leith Hall will be by guided tour, giving a fascinating insight into the changing aspirations, needs and tastes of the Leith-Hay family over the centuries. There is also a military exhibition, telling the story of generations of military men. Outside, the beautiful grounds are one of the Trust’s hidden gems and contain the highest altitude garden, at 186m above sea level. From the top of the garden there are spectacular views of Aberdeenshire and the surrounding hills. The tearoom serves hot drinks, cakes and lunches. We return to hotel in time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 6 Today is a day at leisure in Aberdeen. The hotel is located in the city centre, perfect for enjoying the wealth of parks, gardens, museums, galleries and more.
DAY 7 After breakfast we depart our main stay hotel and travel to Scone Palace, a 5* visitor experience boasting an exciting and colourful history as one of Scotland's most important stately homes. Fifteen hundred years ago it was the capital of the Picts. In the intervening centuries, it has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of the Kings of Scots, including Macbeth and Robert The Bruce. The
Palace houses an outstanding collection of antiques, paintings and rare artifacts and the grounds are renowned throughout the world, making the stately home one of the most popular tourist attractions
in both Perth and Scotland. There is a cafe for lunch to be purchased. Afterwards, we travel to our overnight hotel in Gretna Green, arriving with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 8 After breakfast we check out of the hotel and return to home area making suitable comfort stops along the way.
