COACH HOLIDAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 Depart home area and travel to Yorkshire making suitable comfort stops along the way, including time in Stamford for lunch to be purchased. Stamford is one of the prettiest towns in England boasting over 600 graded listed buildings. Middlemarch, Pride & Prejudice and many more period dramas have been filmed here. Arrive at the hotel in Bradford with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 2 After breakfast visit Holmfirth, the beautiful picture postcard market town on the edge of the Peak District Park. Here we join the Summer Wine Tour Bus for a 10-mile journey around the film locations used in the BBC production of ‘Last of the Summer Wine’. Afterwards we head to Holmfirth Vineyard for an informative tour of the winery, including a tasting of three different wines. We return to the hotel for our evening meal.
DAY 3 After breakfast enjoy a scenic journey through the Yorkshire Dales National Park to Grassington, a beautiful village in Upper Wharfedale set in stunning scenery. The village is full of history, great shops and friendly pubs which contribute to the magic of this place. Grassington has been used as many films, such as, Wuthering Heights, and TV programmes. Afterwards we travel a short distance to delightful Kettlewell, an attractive stone built village which doubled up as ‘Knapley’ where Calendar Girls was filmed which starred Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. Time here to obtain afternoon tea in one of the many cafes and time to look around the quaint shops before returning to hotel in time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 4 After breakfast we travel a short distance to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Here we board a steam train at Oxenhope to Keighley and travel along a 5-mile branch line that served mills and villages in the Worth Valley and is now a heritage railway line. This railway was used in the film ‘The Railway Children’. We then re-board the coach to visit Newby Hall & Gardens, an 18th century country house situated beside the River Ure which has played host in Peaky Blinders, the relatively new Sunday drama ‘Victoria’ as well as Brooks. There are refreshment facilities here to purchase lunch or afternoon tea. Return to hotel for our evening meal.
DAY 5 After breakfast return to home area, stopping en-route at Belton House, a beautiful Grade I listed country house whose interiors were used in the 1995 adaptation of BBC Pride & Prejudice as ‘Rosings’. It also has been used in the recent BBC TV adaption of Jane Eyre. The mansion is surrounded by formal gardens and a series of follies within a larger wooded park. Time here to purchase lunch before continuing to home area, making suitable comfort stops.
