COACH HOLIDAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 Travel to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. After this we continue through France making suitable refreshment stops to the overnight hotel, Hotel Mercure Forbach. Time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 2 After breakfast check out of the overnight hotel and travel to the main stay hotel in Austria. We will stop for lunch to be purchased in Strasbourg. This is the capital of the Alsace and is full of medieval churches, half-timbered houses straight out of Brothers Grimm coexisting with elegant French-style mansions and townhouses. There are many wonderful restaurants and shops to visit too. Re-join the coach and head to the main hotel passing through Switzerland and cross the border into Austria, arriving at our main stay hotel with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 3 After breakfast enjoy a local bus guided tour of historic Feldkirch. Feldkirch is an enchanting 800-year-old town on the border between Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland and is the second largest town in the Vorarlberg region. It has many enchanting shops and full of character. We also visit Schattenburg Castle Museum today in Feldkirch. The museum houses well-presented collections of religious art, aristocratic and middle-class Gothic-era furnishings, traditional country furniture, weaponry and armour, and costumes. Free time here this afternoon before returning to the hotel for a warming Gluhwein before our evening meal.
DAY 4 After breakfast we depart for the snowy Bregenzer Wald. We stop in Hittisau where we will be able to taste their famous “Bergkäse” cheese produced in the Alps. We then continue to Schwarzenberg, the most beautiful area far and wide. The famous painter, Angelika Kauffman, who later lived in London and then Rome, spent her childhood here. Her early artwork can be viewed in the parish church. Also included on this day is the sleigh ride (approx. 30 min). On the return journey to the hotel we will be able to enjoy a view of Lake of Constance while driving over the Bödele and Lindau, the city on the Island in the Lake of Constance. Arrive back at the hotel with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 5 After breakfast travel to Chur, an old cathedral town (journey time approx. 1 hour). This is the starting point of our trip with the Snowdon Mountain Railway (1-hour duration), which takes us up through the splendid mountain scenery to the famous winter sports resort of Arosa, also called the ‘white paradise’ and offers great views of snow covered peaks. Enjoy free time in Arosa where we can go for a walk round the little lake. Afterwards, re-board the train back to Chur. Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland and has a settlement history of over 5,000 years. The historic Old Town is very much worth a visit and is completely car-free. Red signs direct visitors to the most beautiful sights, squares and alleys. With its winding alleys this town provides a wonderful ambience for a leisurely shopping stroll around the many boutiques and shops. Return to the hotel with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 6 After breakfast check out of our main stay hotel and return to our overnight in France, making suitable comfort stops. Arrive with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 7 After breakfast return to Calais for the Eurotunnel crossing to Folkestone, making suitable comfort stops along the way with time to purchase lunch. Arrive back to home area early evening.
