Step inside the murky underworld of the Peaky Blinders as you discover their dark history during this weekend break. The BBC epic gangster drama Peaky Blinders filmed scenes for series 1 to 5 at the Black Country Living Museum. Take a stroll around the set, see the Shelby’s scrap metal yard where illegal goods were moved along the historic Birmingham canal network. Also included are visits Arley Hall, home to Tommy Shelby and the Port Sunlight Village, home to Aunty Polly. So, grab your flat caps or flapper dresses as we step into the world of the Shelby’s!

Day 1

Depart home area and, after making a suitable comfort stop en-route, continue to Birmingham for lunch to be purchased - after all, the Peaky Blinders were an urban street gang based here from the end of the 19th century to after the First World War! Afterwards, we continue north and arrive at our hotel where we have a cup of tea/coffee with lemon & carrot cake on arrival, followed later by our evening meal.

Day 2

After breakfast we head for Port Sunlight Village. This model village (‘model’ in the sense that it is an ideal to which other developments could aspire) was built in the late 1800’s by the Lever Brothers Company to accommodate workers in its soap factory. Within the Peaky Blinders world, it is used as the location for Aunt Polly’s Sutton Coldfield house. Afterwards re-join the coach for a visit to Liverpool for time at leisure, we also take you to Admiral Grove. This unassuming stretch in Liverpool stands in for the street on which the Shelby’s live in the Small Heath area of Birmingham. It holds another interesting claim to fame, being the street where Ringo Starr grew up before finding fame with The Beatles.

Day 3

This morning we visit Arley Hall, a country Grade II listed building in the village of Arley which serves as Tommy Shelby’s sprawling manor house in Peaky Blinders. The Hall that currently stands was built in 1832 and the grounds have been home to Viscount Ashbrook and his family for over 500 years. The library becomes Tommy’s office, and producers hang their large portrait of Tommy and his horse in the Great Hall. Afterwards we travel to Manchester. See one of the most iconic landmarks in the city, Manchester Town Hall. Time to purchase lunch and to see Manchester’s magnificent old fire station on London Road, which hosted filming for a number of scenes in one of the series. You might recognise the courtyard where Tommy Shelby can be seen standing, while boxing scenes were also filmed inside the old engine room.

Day 4

We depart our hotel and travel to the Black Country Living Museum. Peaky Blinders may be synonymous with Birmingham, but some of its key scenes were filmed at The Black Country Living Museum, about 12 miles away from the gang’s real-life home, which has been used for shoots on all five series. Time to purchase lunch, visit the ‘Garrison pub’ and to discover this amazing museum, where we are sure to recognise where some of the scenes were shot, before returning to home area.
