COACH HOLIDAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 We depart home area and head northwards making suitable comfort stops along the way, including a stop in Chesterfield for lunch to be purchased. We have a cup of tea/coffee on arrival at the hotel with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 2 After breakfast travel to the city of Durham, home to one of the majestic Durham Cathedral. Time to visit the Cathedral (free admission but a donation of £3 pp is welcome) and then purchase lunch in one of the many cafes and restaurants before returning to the hotel. On arrival back to the hotel, we have time to freshen up and get changed for our evening ahead. We have an early evening meal at the hotel (approx 5pm) before departing for ‘Kynren - an epic tale of England’, Bishop Auckland’s live action extravaganza. This mesmerising show takes us on a whistle stop tour of 2,000 years of history, myth and legend. Taking place on a vast landscaped stage (7.5acres!) with a huge lake at its centre hiding a host of surprises, we’ll meet many of the characters and events that have shaped the north east - and the country as a whole - as the 29 scenes, encompassing the Roman occupation to World War II, unfold in front of our eyes. With a cast and crew of almost 1,500 performing on a vast open-air stage alongside horses, sheep, oxen, donkeys, goats and geese, the scale of the show must be seen to be believed. Spectacular sets appearing as if by magic, mass choreography and fierce battles are illuminated with dazzling special effects, effervescent lighting and pyrotechnics, set to a spine-tingling original score which we’ll experience in movie-like surround sound. Please note: all visitors will enter through security/ ticket checks followed by a 350m walk to the Tribune. Kirbys must be told in advance if you are bringing a wheelchair. The show lasts for 90 minutes. The entire seating is outdoors so suitable clothing is recommended, ponchos will be available to purchase. Umbrellas are not allowed during the performance. No performance has been cancelled due to the weather.
DAY 3 After breakfast visit the Head of Steam Darlington Railway Museum. This museum has a number of steam trains on display, including Stephenson’s Locomotion No. 1. Afterwards enjoy a free afternoon in Darlington, a lovely market town with a pedestrianised, compact town centre.
DAY 4 After breakfast we travel back home making suitable comfort stops along the way, including a stop in Stamford for lunch to be purchased. Stamford is one of the most complete stone towns in England. Some of the streets have been unchanged for centuries. Many period dramas have been filmed here including Middle March and Pride & Prejudice.
