COACH HOLIDAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 Today we head northwards making suitable comfort stops along the way, including a stop in Wetherby for lunch to be purchased. We arrive at the hotel with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 2 After breakfast visit Alnwick Castle & Gardens, one of Britain’s most iconic castles. The origins of Alnwick Castle date back to the Norman Period. Since 1309, its story has been intertwined with that of the Percy family. This castle was also seen as ‘Hogwarts’ in the Harry Potter movies! The Lion Arch was a way in and out of Hogwarts, heading towards Hagrid’s cabin and the Forbidden Forest. Be spellbound by The Alnwick Garden, landscaped hedges and flower beds around the water cascade. The Alnwick Garden includes the Poison Garden, home to a gruesome collection of lethal plants. Visitors are treated to tales of misfortune and demise of those who dare to use nature for their own sinister purposes. Stand in wonder as we learn of the plants deadly and lethal properties whilst being accompanied by specialist tour guides. Alnwick Castle offers a wide range of affordable food and drinks options, from sandwiches and cake to fish and chips and freshly baked pizza. We have a full day to discover the castle before returning to the hotel for our evening meal.
DAY 3 After breakfast visit Seahouses, ‘The Gateway to the Farne Islands’, which is a large village on the North Northumberland coast. Here we join a boat tour around the Farne Islands, one of Britain’s most spectacular wildlife habitats. There will be an on-board wildlife guide who will be happy to answer all our questions before, after and during this trip. Discover seabirds and seal habitats, view the magnificent scenery of the islands and Northumberland’s iconic coastline and learn of Grace Darling’s life-saving heroics. The tour takes approx. 1.5 hours and does not land on any of the islands. Today we also visit the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Be prepared to enter another world. Lying just a few miles off the Northumberland coast, Holy Island is cut off twice-daily from the rest of the world by fast moving tides. Both an island and a picturesque village, Holy Island carries a wealth of history within its tidal walls. We return to the hotel with time to relax before our evening meal.
DAY 4 After breakfast head to Cragside House & Gardens, an extraordinary Victorian house with gardens and woodland - the
wonder of its age! Described in 1880 as ‘a palace of the modern magician’, this is one of Northumbria’s most unique attractions. Discover the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. It is crammed full of ingenious gadgets – most of them still working. The gardens are incredible. One of the largest rock gardens in Europe leads down to the Iron Bridge, which in turn leads to the formal garden. Lunch can be purchased in the tea rooms which overlook Tumbleton lake. We return to the hotel with time to relax before our evening meal.
DAY 5 After breakfast we head for home making suitable comfort stops, including a stop in Boundary Mills, Grantham for lunch to be purchased.
